School Links and Approach to Learning

Our nursery is led by the school’s Early Years Team Manager—a specialist in Early Years education and an Assistant Headteacher.

Our team:

  • Collaborates closely with the Reception classes
  • Plans a rich and motivating curriculum together
  • Accesses whole-school training and events
  • Uses school facilities, including the hall, playground and library

With Reception classrooms located directly opposite the nursery, children enjoy a smooth, confident transition into school life.

We believe children learn best through a balance of:

  • Play-based learning
  • Adult modelling and guided teaching
  • Structured small-group activities
  • Carefully planned continuous provision

Communication and language development are at the heart of our curriculum. Children learn through stories, songs, conversations, rhymes and imaginative play, building essential early literacy and learning skills.

EYFS Principles

Our practice is guided by the four EYFS principles:

1. Every Child is Unique

Recognising individual learning styles, needs and starting points.

2. Positive Relationships

Creating secure, warm relationships with adults and families.

3. Enabling Environments

Providing stimulating indoor and outdoor spaces based on observations and children's interests.

4. Learning and Development

Offering meaningful experiences across all EYFS areas with a balance of child-led and teacher-led learning.

The characteristics of effective learning—playing and exploring, active learning, and thinking critically—underpin all we do.

Our Aims

We aim to:

  • Build strong, respectful partnerships with parents
  • Support each child’s individual needs
  • Promote equality and emotional wellbeing
  • Offer rich, hands-on learning experiences
  • Provide both child-initiated and adult-directed activities
