Welcome to Year 2 at Lawley Primary School!
Year 2 promises to be an exciting and pivotal stage in your child's educational journey. As the eldest in Key Stage 1, our Year 2 children are expected to shine as role models, displaying increased levels of independence and personal responsibility.
High Expectations and Role Models
In Year 2, children are given the important task of setting a good example for their younger peers in Reception and Year 1. We nurture this responsibility by encouraging them to be considerate, respectful, and supportive, underpinning the values that make our school community thrive.

Introduction of iPad Scheme
This year marks the introduction of our innovative iPad scheme at Lawley Primary School. Each child will have access to a personal device to enhance their learning experience. Lessons are uploaded to our online platform, Showbie, allowing children to engage with their studies both at school and at home. Our iPads, combined with traditional work in their books, offer a balanced approach to modern learning.
Morning Routines
Children will independently enter the school through the side entrance on Glendale, carrying their belongings. They will place their items in their lockers and take their named water bottles and iPads into the classroom. After organising their belongings, they should get their pencil case from their named tray and settle at their desks to begin their Maths Flashback activities. These activities are designed to help children transition smoothly into the school day, preparing them for the more challenging work to follow.
Home/School Communication
We value open and ongoing communication between home and school. Each morning, a member of staff will be stationed at the school gate to welcome children and receive any quick updates regarding your child’s wellbeing. For confidential or longer discussions, parents are encouraged to email their child's class teacher directly to arrange an appointment.

Homework:
Year 2 children will receive weekly homework, which will be available on Showbie, our online learning platform. Homework is set on Fridays and must be uploaded to the labelled folder by the following Friday. This will be monitored by the teachers in your child’s class each week.
We expect all children to develop a love of reading in Year 2, which cannot happen if reading occurs solely at school. Therefore, it is our expectation that children read with an adult or an older sibling at least three times a week at home and that a comment is uploaded to their online reading diary.
We have a large collection of books for children to choose from. Once your child has read their book and an adult has commented on their online reading diary, they can independently change their book. Additionally, your child is able to access a selection of e-books in the reading corner section of bug club. Your child has their own login and password to access their online library. Please record the reading of these e-books on Showbie, just as you would for paper books.
End of the Day Routines:
The school day ends at 3:15pm for Year 2 children. Miss Folger’s pupils will be dismissed via the classroom door and Mr Griffiths’ pupils through the double doors leading to the Year 2 playground.

Due to our rigorous safeguarding procedures, we can only release children to their parent(s) or carer(s). Should you need to arrange for someone else to collect your child, please inform the member of staff on the gate in the morning or contact the school office to let us know.
We look forward to a wonderful year ahead, filled with learning and growth. Thank you for your continuous support in making Year 2 a successful and enjoyable experience for all our children.
